December 14, 2011 Leave a comment

The Command Line window (CMD) in windows supports a mode called QuickEdit that allows an easy Copy&Paste functionality similar to that which tools like PuTTy and SecureCRT offer. To enable it just follow the following steps:

  1. Open a CMD window (Start –> Run –> CMD)
  2. Right click on the title bar and choose Properties
  3. In the Edit Options section, choose the QuickEdit Mode and click on OK
  4. The current and all future CMD windows will work in that manner

How to use it:

  1. Hold the left mouse button to select text – and release when done
  2. Right click once to put the selected text in the clipboard (i.e. Copy)
  3. Right click again to paste the text

Note for Windows 7 users:

A regular CMD window and a CMD window as administrator are two different things, so you need to do it once for each …
